Your work matters. How it is documented should too.

When documenting community initiatives or disaster recovery or social programs the process is just as important as the final product. Extracting stories without permission or context causes harm. Documentation can easily turn into exploitation if you do not ask first. You need a filmmaker who knows how to step back and get out of the way and let the community speak for themselves.

Community first filmmaking.

We recognise that we are guests in someone else's space. We ask questions before the shoot instead of after. We budget time for food and conversation and trust building before the cameras ever roll.

Cultural competence.

Over two decades of filming in New Zealand we have learned that cultural competence isn't a destination. It is a practice. We know when to film and when to participate in protocols and when the most respectful thing you can do is bring in cultural representation on the crew to lead the conversation.
