Chorus Waiheke Island Fibre Optic Installation

A significant infrastructure project bringing futureproof internet access to Waiheke Island. Chorus laid 6km of fibre optic cable on the seabed from Maraetai in East Auckland to Waiheke Island, upgrading the community's internet infrastructure for decades to come.

This case study video production documents the scale and complexity of the installation, following the cable-laying boat and capturing interviews with project leaders including the Chorus CEO.

The project

The Waiheke Island fibre optic installation represented a major infrastructure upgrade for the island community. Six kilometers of undersea cable required careful planning, specialized equipment, and coordination between multiple teams.

The video needed to communicate the scale of the project while highlighting the human element: the people making it happen and the community benefiting from improved connectivity.

Production approach

The filming required flexibility and technical capability. Following a cable-laying boat 3km with drone coverage meant planning for weather, marine conditions, and safety protocols.

Interviews with the Chorus CEO and logistics team were conducted on location, balancing the documentary feel with corporate messaging needs. The goal was to show the complexity of the project without losing the clarity of why it matters.

Deliverables

The final video was used across Chorus's social media channels and internal communications. It documented a significant moment in Waiheke Island's infrastructure development while showcasing Chorus's capability to deliver complex technical projects.
